This week, I applaud the legislation passed during the special session and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis to rein in insurance rates and to help Floridians harden their homes against storms. I remain committed to fighting insurance fraud and bolstering our investigative services to further support our efforts to protect consumers. My office also looks forward to establishing the My Safe Florida Home Program as quickly and efficiently as possible to allow homeowners to start protecting their biggest investment - their homes.

The 2022 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts this weekend and now is the time to prepare for what is predicted to be a busy hurricane season. I am encouraging Floridians to take advantage of the special savings between May 28th – June 10th on emergency supplies, such as batteries, flashlights, generators, items for your pets, and so much more. There is nothing more important than having a disaster plan in place to protect you, your family, and your home. As we’ve seen before, hurricanes can intensify and develop fast so don’t wait until it’s too late. Prepare now to keep your family safe during storms while saving money in the process.

Finally, this week I issued a Consumer Alert warning Floridians of the reports that unscrupulous contractors are attempting to get out in front of the recent legislative change made during special session by ramping up their solicitation schemes and sending out flyers to Floridians. These bad actors are continuing to take advantage of consumers, and it is essential that every single Florida Resident has there guard up to these fraudulent tricksters.
