CFO Statement on Committee Passage of K-12 TikTok Ban
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued a statement following the passage of Senate Bill 52 from the Senate Education Pre-k-12 Committee. Senate Bill 52 by Senator Danny Burgess requires Florida school districts to prohibit and prevent students from accessing social media platforms through the use of internet access provided by each district. Further, the bill calls for in-school instruction on social media safety and how best it can be utilized in personal and professional life.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, "I've said this time and time again that TikTok is digital fentanyl and has no place in our schools. A huge thank you to Senator Danny Burgess for spearheading this critical legislation and ensuring our students and schools remain safe from the dangers TikTok presents. Children are the future, so we need to work together to do everything we can to protect them and set them up for success.”
