Don't Fall for GoFundMe Scams
This week, I announced my support of House Bill 1185, which requires transparency measures in Florida Law to protect Floridians from crowdfunding scams from sources like GoFundMe. In the wake of disasters like the Surfside Condo Collapse or Hurricane Ian, we have seen these crowdfunding sites allow fraudulent accounts to run rampant across the internet, tugging at people's heartstrings to help victims of these disasters. Often these are scam accounts, and I am fed up with companies like GoFundMe, not putting up a fight to protect consumers. Enough is enough, and now is the time to pass meaningful legislation that protects Florida consumers, and cracks down on these fraudulent accounts.

On Wednesday, I issued a letter to NewsGuard, a news organization whose website had a list of safety standards that fall in line with ESG practices. I maintain that ESG criteria is undemocratic because it leverages capital to force businesses into promoting social outcomes. If the actions of NewsGuard target any Florida businesses, as CFO, I will not hesitate to use the full force of my office to shed light on the organization. Florida businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will make sure they are protected at all costs.
Sincerely,
