INVERNESS, Fla. — The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office this week recognized the first graduate of its new “Grow as You Go” online training program for volunteer firefighters. Gronn Morgan of the Inverness Fire Department is the first to complete 206 hours of online training and earn his Volunteer Firefighter Certificate of Completion.

This new approach allows prospective volunteer firefighters to
complete their training for free, online, and in a way that allows them to begin serving their community before graduation.

Through a course schedule designed to teach using practical skills modules, students can put their newly-learned skills to work immediately in volunteer fire departments across Florida. Often short-handed, volunteer fire departments can now gain access to a wider base of trained volunteers.

Morgan’s certificate was presented by Florida State Fire College Chief Mike Tucker Florida’s State Volunteer Fire Coordinator Charles Frank and Inverness Fire Chief Joe Campfield.

Interested individuals can learn more about this valuable program by contacting State Volunteer Coordinator Charles Frank at (352) 369-2830 or via email at Charles.Frank@myfloridaCFO.com.
