CRESTVIEW, Fla. — CFO and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater honored the winners of the Florida Fire Service Awards during a reception hosted yesterday evening at the Florida Capitol. Among the winners was Crestview Fire Department’s Assistant Chief of Training and Safety Ralph Everage, Jr., who was announced as winner of the Fire Service Instructor of the Year award. The annual Fire Service Award ceremony is held to reward and honor those in the fire service community who have shown exceptionalism in their profession.

Chief Everage began his fire service career with the Crestview Fire Department (CFD) as an Explorer Scout at the age of 15, and at the age of 18, he began volunteering with the Department. He was officially hired in 1991 and was promoted to his current position in July 2005. Since 2006, he has served as a fire science instructor for Crestview Fire Department as well as surrounding departments. With a clear passion for the fire service community, he currently manages the entire CFD training program as well as the Department’s FEMA grant program. He was successful in securing a FEMA grant that allowed the Department to hire twelve additional personnel.

He assisted with developing the Firefighter Minimum Standards Program at the Northwest Florida State College Fire Academy and is a program co-lead. Further, he has been involved with the Northwest Florida Volunteer Firefighter Weekend where he managed the Life Fire program, which is a 3-day program that provides the required live fire exercises for Volunteer Firefighter certifications.

Chief Everage was nominated by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association.
