JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Financial Services’ Division of State Fire Marshal today announced the arrest of 55-year-old John Wesley Collins for first-degree arson and domestic violence following a fire on March 3, 2015, in Jacksonville. A fire scene investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set on the back porch of a residence at 1131 East 14th Street.
Officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office determined that the surviving victim of the arson was also a victim of domestic battery committed by Collins. During interviews with investigators, Collins admitted to arguing with the surviving victim and being on the back porch just prior to the fire.
Collins faces up to 30 years in prison. His case will be prosecuted by the office of Fourth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Angela B. Corey.
