$271 million sits in a state pot just waiting for Tampa Bay people to claim it. $96 million of it belongs to Hillsborough County residents alone.
A lot of people, thousands in fact, don’t realize they have money waiting for them in a state account guarded by Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.
You could have money waiting for you as well. Maybe you never picked up a paycheck. Your utility or insurance company might owe you a refund. Money from stocks and inheritance could in there, too. Someone in Tampa has more than $500,000 sitting, just waiting to be claimed.
Walter Graham, the Chief of the Bureau of Unclaimed Property says they send out mail to everyone with money, and then try to contact people with $25,000 or more, directly.
