TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— CFO and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater today released the following statement about the line-of-duty shooting death of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy.
CFO and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater said, “I am saddened by the death of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy that occurred this morning and I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the fallen deputy. I also pray for the second deputy who was shot in the incident.
“This is the second horrific act of violence in the Capital City this week and it serves as a solemn reminder of the risk first responders put themselves in every day in service to our state.
We must continue to thank them for their service and remember those who make the ultimate sacrifice for our safety.”
The State Fire Marshal’s Office Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is on the scene and will continue to support local authorities with the ongoing investigation.
Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater, a statewide elected official, oversees the Department of Financial Services.  CFO Atwater’s priorities include fighting financial fraud, abuse and waste in government; reducing government spending and regulatory burdens that chase away businesses; and providing transparency and accountability in spending.
