Statement from CFO Tom Gallagher on Governor’s Tax Relief Package

1/31/2006

"I was extremely pleased to learn of Governor Bush's latest budget proposal which would further reduce the tax burden on Floridians.  I have long supported cutting taxes to further our state's economic potential.

"I will continue to ask the Legislature to use sales-tax revenue derived from hurricane reconstruction to provide rate-relief for all Floridians, but I am supportive of the Governor's idea to provide a $100 tax-rebate for Floridians who have homesteads or live in mobile homes.

"That money, which belongs to the taxpayers in the first place, is the first step in helping Floridians deal with insurance assessments, hurricane repairs, or hurricane preparation for this year's season."
