10/17/2002

BEVERLY HILLS-Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal in Ocala are working with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office to investigate the death of a Beverly Hills resident in a fire Wednesday morning.

The Beverly Hills Volunteer Fire Department was called to a single-story home at 298 W. Sugarmaple Lane, after a newspaper carrier saw flames coming from the residence at 04:50 a.m., Wednesday. When firefighters arrived, they found the structure engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, emergency personnel found the body of Kathleen Laszlo, 75, inside.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Ocala Field Office say the fire caused approximately $100,000 in damage to the structure. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, as is the cause of Ms. Laszlo's death.

The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is a law enforcement branch of the Division of State Fire Marshal that assists other state and local fire and law enforcement agencies in the investigation of fires of suspicious origin. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 1-877-662-7766 (1-877-NOARSON) or the Citrus County Sheriff's Office at 352-746-2555. Information also may be mailed to Arson Control, P.O.
