CFO Jimmy Patronis Celebrates Miami’s 125th Anniversary
 
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis issued a proclamation honoring Miami’s 125th Anniversary. The City of Miami covers an area of more than 55 square miles and is the second largest city in Florida with a population of nearly half a million.

PROCLAMATION
 
WHEREAS, the City of Miami was founded on July 28, 1896, making today the city’s 125th Anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Miami is the only major city in the United States founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle, and is named after Frances L. Dade, Major in the United States Army during the Second Seminole War; and

WHEREAS, located in the southeastern part of the state of Florida, the City of Miami covers an area of over 55 square miles and is the second largest city in Florida with a population of nearly half a million; and
 
WHEREAS, Miami International Airport helps make the city the North American gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean and earned the title of “Capital of Latin America” due to its high Latin American population, primarily Cubans; and
 
WHEREAS, Miami is one of the most diverse areas in the state, and the City’s tropical climate, turquoise waters, endless amounts of entertainment and active lifestyle pursuits make Miami an exciting place to be year-around; and
 
WHEREAS, Miami encompasses unique abilities, known as a city with strength of character, a gritty resourcefulness and ability to rebound from the worst kinds of crises; and
 
WHEREAS, the City of Miami is planning events to span the entire Anniversary year full of diverse food, fun, culture and innovation commemorating the Magic City’s 125th Anniversary celebration filled with education for residents to learn about where they live and for visitors to gain a greater appreciation for the city; and
 
WHEREAS, the Anniversary celebration honors neighborhoods from downtown Liberty City, Coconut Grove, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Little San Juan and Little Santo Domingo; and
 
WHEREAS, Miami’s Anniversary provides the opportunity to honor Miami’s historic trailblazers while embracing today’s social and entrepreneurial innovators who are positioning Miami to be a world-class city now and in the future.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal of the State of Florida does hereby commemorate MIAMI’S 125TH ANNIVERSARY and celebrates the milestone of cultural diversity and heritage and the founding of a world-class city.
