CFO Jimmy Patronis: Banks and Credit Unions Must Work with Hurricane Michael Victims in Panhandle to Aid in Recovery

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis today called on the banks and credit unions with customers in the Florida Panhandle to do everything they can to support victims of Hurricane Michael.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “It is absolutely essential that financial institutions support those impacted by Hurricane Michael by waiving fees and penalties to aid the victims. Many financial institutions have already announced they are taking these steps to help families in the Panhandle and I encourage all banks and credit unions to follow suit and help these communities recover.”
CFO Patronis’ Urges the Banks and Credit Unions to Consider:
• Waiving fees, which could include late fees for lending products including credit cards, auto loans, personal loans and lines of credit, and Not Sufficient Funds (NSF).
• Waiving fees for customers using non-network ATMs or money transfer services.
• Offering other provisions for Hurricane Michael victims that can aid in speedy recovery or limit undue financial hardship for at least 90 days.
