CFO Jimmy Patronis Issues Proclamation Recognizing Florida Thrift Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis recognized January 13-17, 2025 as Florida Thrift Week with a proclamation promoting the importance of thrift and its benefits to Florida families and the state's economy. Every year, Florida Thrift Week encourages financial literacy and responsible consumer behavior in the Sunshine State.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Fiscal responsibility and financial literacy are essential for making tough financial decisions, such as purchasing a home, buying a car, preparing for college, or starting your own business. Thrift encourages sound financial practices and upholds long-standing American traditions. I invite all Floridians to learn more about thrift during Florida Thrift Week and share these principles with your friends and loved ones. Please visit our website for financial literacy programs and resources to see how Your Money Matters.”
James Madison Institute (JMI) President Dr. Robert McClure said, "We appreciate CFO Patronis for recognizing Florida Thrift Week this year. It's vital for Florida's next generation to remember the foundational principles of our history. Benjamin Franklin emphasized the importance of economic freedom alongside political freedom. JMI’s curriculum, All About the Benjamins, is centered on Franklin’s ideas, and we look forward to continuing to promote them."
WHEREAS, a vigorous and healthy economy is fueled by the choices of financially informed consumers making educated decisions throughout their lives concerning saving, budgeting, and how to obtain and use consumer credit; and
WHEREAS, the practice of thrift can enhance efforts to raise financial literacy and promote economic development; and
WHEREAS, thrift, a once-vibrant American tradition widely celebrated in the first half of the twentieth century, proved industry, frugality, and stewardship were the antidote to the high levels of debt and the economic uncertainty currently plaguing our nation; and
