CFO Jimmy Patronis Praises Governor DeSantis for Signing DFS Agency Bill

~ The Legislation protects insurance consumers and works to support small businesses ~
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued the following statement on Governor DeSantis signing House Bill 959 that modernizes laws and reduces or eliminates fees in the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS). This legislation helps reduce workers’ compensation penalties for small businesses, provides direction for noticing consumers of insurance agency closures, and forces public adjusters to be transparent with policyholders.
CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Every year as your CFO, I’ve been committed to protecting consumers, cracking down on fraud, and helping our small businesses. Our DFS agency package will protect policyholders by ensuring insurance agencies and public adjusters are up front and transparent with consumers. Additionally, this bill supports small businesses by reducing workers’ comp penalties. As a former small business owner, I understand the blood, sweat, and tears that go into growing and maintaining a small business. More than ever, Florida’s small businesses are doing all they can to keep the lights on and put food on the table. This bill will give business owners the tools they need to become more resilient in today’s economy by lessening the burden on licensing requirements. My thanks to Governor DeSantis for showing his commitment to making Florida the best state in America to do business and further protecting insurance consumers. Also, thank you to Senator Boyd and Representative LaMarca for working this bill across the finish line in the Florida Legislature.”
Senator Jim Boyd said, “I was thrilled to sponsor this good bill in the Florida Senate. Not only will this legislation provide better opportunities for small businesses to grow, but it will alert insurance policy holders if their insurance agency is closing its doors. Thank you to CFO Jimmy Patronis for your support and dedication to Florida’s consumers.”
Representative Chip LaMarca said, “Thank you to Governor Ron DeSantis for signing this outstanding piece of legislation and to CFO Jimmy Patronis for being a warrior on behalf of Florida’s small business community and Florida’s consumers. It was a pleasure to sponsor this bill in the Florida House that will cut red tape and reduce government fees that stifle innovation and job creation.”
