As the panhandle cleans up after Tropical Storm Fred, I am reminded of the many similarities between our standard procedures in emergency operations and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ongoing war against the Covid-19 virus in Florida.
The battle being waged by Governor Ron DeSantis against the Covid-19 pandemic is following a similar pattern.
Talking to a doctor about whether the vaccine is right for you would be just like taking steps to prepare your home and belongings before a storm.
Now, thanks to a big push from Gov. DeSantis, we also have monoclonal antibody treatments for people who become infected with the virus.

I have heard some politicians yell about how the Governor’s recent push for mobile monoclonal antibody treatment centers – now in Jacksonville and Orlando – means he is not pro-vaccine enough. That is nonsense. The Governor, like myself, is vaccinated against Covid-19. He is pro-preparedness, and I believe he is also pro-response. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. To go back to our hurricane analogy, would we tell someone in a car stranded in hurricane floodwaters after a storm that we won’t help them because they shouldn’t have driven in the rain? Of course not.
Offering response strategies on top of preparedness strategies always helps to save lives during emergency response operations.  God willing, the same will be true by coupling vaccinations with treatment efforts during this war against Covid-19.  As a former member of the US Navy, Gov. DeSantis is following a battleplan and I am confident he will keep fighting.
