TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As part of Financial Literacy Month, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today recognized the 2015 winners of the Florida Council on Economic Education’s Economic Poster Contest. The contest, open to all K-12 students in Florida, was a fun and interactive way of introducing basic principles of finance. Students chose from a selection of economic terms, like good and services, entrepreneur and trade, and drew a picture reflecting their understanding of the selected economic concept.
“There is no better time than now for Florida’s youth to begin learning the fundamentals of personal finance,” said CFO Atwater. “I applaud these students for proactively taking steps to learn these skills that will prepare them for sound financial futures.”

“The Florida Council on Economic Education is grateful to CFO Atwater for helping to honor the students and teachers who participated in the contest,” said Suzanne Costanza, Director of Programs for the Florida Council on Economic Education. “This contest stands to prove that students of all ages have the capability to learn about personal finance and economics, if given the right opportunity.”

CFO Atwater and the Council have a shared mission of ensuring that all Floridians are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to make wise financial decisions now and in the future. Throughout April, the Department of Financial Services will highlight weekly financial tips and financial education programs on its Your Money Matters website. All Floridians are encouraged to review the resources and information available through the website to expand their knowledge of personal finance.
