An Orlando mother is accused of lying to get more than $20,000 of taxpayer money for child care.
The money is supposed to be set aside for working families who need assistance.
But state fraud investigators said they believe Candice Neil filed paperwork with the state, claiming she worked at the Itty Bitty Learning Center in order to get money for child care while she worked.
Itty Bitty Learning Center owners said Neil never worked there.
The Department of Financial Services found she applied for child care subsidies for her four children, which is money that’s meant to help out low-income working families.
State investigators said Neil lied on her application and even provided fake pay stubs, indicating she was working for the Itty Bitty Learning Center.
Parents WFTV spoke with said it’s a shame to find out about people accused of cheating the system, especially when there are others who really need the care.
The state said there is a waiting list for day care assistance, so, when someone cheats the system, it hurts people who really need it.
