Suspect in Multiple Okaloosa County Fires Arrested in Ohio

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Financial Services’ Division of State Fire Marshal today announced the arrest of 23-year-old Brittney Vanhoose for starting a fire in an Okaloosa County barn on December 14, 2013. Farm equipment was burned in the fire, as well as a large quantity of hay.

Vanhoose, a former volunteer firefighter for the Dorcus Fire Department and the Laurel Hill Fire Department, has been identified as a suspect in multiple Okaloosa County fires. Two days after a warrant was issued for her arrest, she fled the Laurel Hill area. Today, she was arrested in Wilmington, Ohio and is awaiting extradition to Florida.

She faces up to 20 years in prison. Her case is being prosecuted by the office of 1st Judicial State Attorney William "Bill" Eddins.
