TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Thirty-five Department of Financial Services employees were selected as winners of 2015 Prudential Productivity Awards for implementing consumer-driven and innovative strategies that improved Department operations while saving taxpayer dollars. The Productivity Awards program honors state employees for achievements that increase productivity and promote innovation.
“These awards further highlight the dedication displayed across our department each and every day,” said Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater. “I’m proud to see our history of exemplary work continue, and I congratulate each of our winners on their extraordinary accomplishments.”
In total, the Department received six team and three individual awards for initiatives that include:
• An investigation led by the Division of State Fire Marshal that prevented the payout of nearly $2 million in fraudulent insurance claims by uncovering an extensive South Florida fraud scheme;
• A marketing campaign, produced in-house for cost savings of more than $140,000, that raised awareness about the Medicaid and Public Assistance Fraud Strike Force, which aimed to curb fraud and better align public assistance resources to Floridians who qualify and are in need;
• Consumer savings of $250,000 resulting from assistance provided by an insurance specialist through the Department’s Consumer Help Line; and
• Implementation of a state contract audit system that increases government transparency and promotes accountability in state spending.
Honorees were presented plaque and/or cash awards during a luncheon ceremony hosted in Tallahassee, Florida, at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. Additional award ceremonies will be hosted across the state in the coming weeks.
