TALLAHASSEE—Today, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater spoke to nearly 300 fellow Floridians to kick-off the Everglades Water Supply Summit in Tallahassee.   The two-day summit, hosted by the Everglades Foundation, is the first of its kind in Tallahassee to link policymakers with experts in Everglades restoration.

CFO Atwater, a longtime advocate for Everglades restoration, focused on the importance of natural resources to Florida’s long-term economic recovery and success.

“The Everglades unite us because Florida’s long-term prosperity is contingent on the restoration and survival of the Everglades,” said CFO Jeff Atwater.  “Last year, Florida welcomed over 80 million visitors, and our environment, particularly the Everglades, plays an integral role in keeping Florida as a top vacation spot for those across the country and the world.”

As the statewide elected official charged with overseeing the state’s finances and advocating for growth in Florida’s economy, CFO Atwater understands the integral role the Everglades play in Florida’s economic growth and recovery.

“The health of our economy is dependent on the health of our environment, and we must not repeat the short-sighted mistakes of the past or exploit our most valuable natural resources for near-term gains,” said CFO Jeff Atwater.

Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, a statewide elected official and officer of the Florida Cabinet, oversees the Department of Financial Services.  CFO Atwater’s priorities include fighting financial fraud, abuse and waste in government, reducing government spending and regulatory burdens that chase away businesses, and providing transparency and accountability in spending.
