TALLAHASSEE—At a meeting of Florida's governor and state cabinet, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher today sponsored a resolution honoring members of the 2004 Sunshine State Scholars Program.

"Sunshine State Scholars rewards students for their hard work and scholastic achievements," said Gallagher. "I commend all the honorees and their teachers for their commitment to excellence and their stand-out performances. Each student here today has a bright future ahead."

The program, which recognizes outstanding academic scholarship in mathematics and science, is open to high school seniors from each school district. Students compete in regional competitions in order to select six finalists throughout the state. The finalists, who were recognized during today's meeting, competed in Tallahassee over the weekend, with finalist Brianna Satinoff winning the statewide competition. Parents and teachers joined the finalists at Florida's Capitol as they were honored by CFO Gallagher.

"Thank you to the governor, chief financial officer and other members of the cabinet for passing this resolution," said Satinoff. "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to meet and compete with other students interested in math and science, and it is an honor to be recognized."
