Treasurer Gallagher Offers Insurance, Fire Safety Experts as Part of ‘capital for a Day’ in Tampa

TAMPA – State Treasurer Tom Gallagher, Governor Jeb Bush and other members of Florida's Cabinet are in Tampa today holding their bi-weekly cabinet meeting, making the city "Capital for a Day." The event brings Florida's Cabinet members to various cities around the state and enables citizens to participate in government without traveling to Tallahassee.

After the Cabinet meeting today, Gallagher will be on hand for the state agency fair, where staff members from the Department of Insurance and State Fire Marshal's Office will be available to provide information and assistance to consumers.

The Bureau of Agent and Agency Services will have an investigator available to offer tips to citizens on how to be alert and protect themselves from possible insurance frauds, scams and schemes. The Division of Insurance Fraud will have brochures and informational flyers available as well as a video presentation to educate consumers on how to detect possible insurance fraud-related crimes. Staff from the Bureau of Consumer Outreach and Education will be available to answer insurance questions and provide guides to assist consumers when making decisions on purchasing insurance. And, members of the State Fire Marshal's office will have representatives on hand from their Bureau of Fire Prevention, Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations as well as Fire Standards and Training to offer information and demonstrations for Tampa area citizens. Consumers will also get a glimpse at equipment used by the Fire Marshal's Office such as K-9 units and a disaster response vehicle.

For citizens who would like more information but are unable to attend the State Agency Fair may call the department's toll free consumer helpline at 1-800-342-2762.
