Doi Prepared to Help Volusia Residents Impacted in Yesterday’s Storm

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Insurance is available to assist Volusia County residents impacted in yesterday's storm in contacting their insurance companies and filing claims. Residents can call the department's Insurance Consumer Helpline or our TDD line at 1-800-342-2762.

Actions consumers should immediately take after a disaster include:

Immediately report property damage to your insurance agent and company.

If you must make emergency repairs, document them.

Maintain copies of your household inventory and other documentation. This will assist the adjuster in assessing the value of the destroyed property.

Take precautions if the damage requires you to leave your home. Let your agent or company know your temporary forwarding address and phone number.

Beware of fly-by-night repair businesses. Hire licensed and reputable service people.

The department's consumer assistance office in Daytona Beach also has specialists available to help consumers. They are located at 955 Orange Avenue, Suite E, in Daytona Beach. They can be reached at (386) 254-3920.
