Fugitive in 1997 Live Oak Arson Apprehended in North Carolina

Live Oak, FL –Authorities in North Carolina have arrested Arvind P. Patel on warrants stemming from an arson fire at his Live Oak business in 1997.

At approximately 10:35 p.m. on May 31, 1997, the Live Oak Fire Department responded to a discount beverage store fire at 615 South Ohio Avenue in Live Oak. An investigation conducted by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Live Oak Fire Department revealed that the fire, which did approximately $90,000 in damage, was the result of arson.

In August 1997, Arvind Patel moved from Suwannee County to an unknown location prior to the investigation being completed. The investigation revealed that the business was secured at the time of the fire, and that Arvind Patel was the last person in the store and had left the building minutes before the fire was reported.

Arvind P. Patel, who is currently being held in North Carolina pending extradition to Florida, is charged with Arson, Burning to Defraud, and Insurance Fraud.
