Hurricane Preparedness Expo to Mark 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew

TALLAHASSEE-The Home Depot, in cooperation with the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) and the Florida Department of Insurance, will host a Hurricane Preparedness Expo, Saturday, June 1st, at the Cutler Ridge Home Depot store, 19400 S.W. 106th Avenue, Miami from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event is free to the public.

The event marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, which ravaged south Florida in 1992. Andrew inflicted nearly $23 billion in insured damages, including severe damage to the original Cutler Ridge Home Depot structure.

Homeowners who attend the Expo can learn ways to protect their home and loved ones from a potential disaster. More than 40 exhibitors are expected to participate, including representatives from FLASH, Miami-Dade Emergency Rescue, Humane Society of Greater Miami, Salvation Army, State Farm Insurance Companies, American Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the National Weather Service. Experts from The Home Depot, along with product vendors and manufacturers, will display items of interest, give demonstrations and answer questions. Children's workshops will be available to provide education and entertainment. Emergency vehicles will also be on display.

Complimentary hot dogs and snacks will be available, and prizes will be given away.

Hurricane season begins June 1st and ends November 30th.
