Ft. Walton Beach Man Charged with Burning Vehicle


ORLANDO- A Ft. Walton Beach man was arrested today for setting his 2001 Kia Sedan vehicle on fire in November 2001.

Joseph Dewayne Smith, 22, of 1106 Sweetbriar Street, is charged with arson and false report to law enforcement. Investigators with the Division of State Fire Marshal, Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations, and the Division of Insurance Fraud booked Smith into the Orange County Jail.

Investigators said Smith set his vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the East River boat landing on Highway 87 South in Navarre. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $11,000. No one was injured.

The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is a law enforcement branch of the Division of State Fire Marshal that assists other state and local fire and law enforcement agencies in the investigation of fires of suspicious origin.
