Death in Lake County Home Fire under Investigation



ASTATULA, FL - Investigators from the Office of State Fire Marshal in Ocala are working with the Astatula Police Department and the Lake County Sheriff's Office to investigate the death of an Astatula resident in a mobile home fire Sunday morning.

The Lake County Fire and Rescue Division was called to the mobile home at 13716 East Kansas Street, Astatula, after neighbors reported hearing glass break and seeing smoke and flames at 1:28 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, they found a large part of the mobile home engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, emergency personnel found the body of an unidentified person, inside the mobile home.

The cause of death is under investigation by the medical examiner's office. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Ocala Field Office are currently conducting the fire scene investigation. The fire, which caused approximately $25,000 worth of damage to the doublewide mobile home, is still under investigation.

The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is a law enforcement branch of the Division of State Fire Marshal that assists other state and local fire and law enforcement agencies in the investigation of fires of suspicious origin.
