Jackson County Fire Determined to Be Arson

9/18/2002

MARIANNA -- The fire that destroyed Tatum's Hardware at 2845 Highway 71 North in Marianna on September 4 has been determined to have been an act of arson.

When firefighters from the Jackson County and Marianna Fire Departments arrived on the scene, an intense fire was blazing inside the store. Eventually fire departments from throughout Jackson County assisted in extinguishing the fire.

The investigation, which was conducted jointly by the State Fire Marshal's Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and the Jackson County Fire Department, determined the fire to have been intentionally set.

The Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this fire.

Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call 877/662-7766 (877/NOARSON) or the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 850/482-9648. Information also may be mailed to Arson Control, P.O. Box 1654, Winter Park, Florida 32790.

The Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations is the law enforcement branch of the Division of State Fire Marshal that assists other state and local law enforcement agencies in the investigation of fires of suspicious origin.
