Floridians,
On Monday, I met with Central Florida Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 4 as they were deploying to Louisiana to assist in Hurricane Ida recovery efforts. These are the same heroes that worked tirelessly on search and rescue operations during the tragic condo collapse in Surfside. These highly trained fire service personnel are the tip-of-the-spear when it comes to disaster recovery and I cannot thank them enough for their service in times of crisis.
On Wednesday, I recognized September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). NPM is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year. Florida was recently spared from Hurricane Ida, but we cannot let our guard down. We are currently in the peak of hurricane season, so now is the time to prepare if you have not done so already. As we have seen in the past, storms can develop extremely fast leaving little to no time to prepare. Visit PrepareFL.com for important storm tips and resources.
Lastly, I urged Floridians to watch out for potential scams this Labor Day weekend. Holidays are when families look to take a quick trip out of town, and scam artists will try and use online and travel-related deals to steal personal information. Additionally, I also reminded everyone that whether you are spending time grilling out, at the beach, or on the water, please make safety your top priority. It only takes a split second to turn an enjoyable family gathering into a tragic one. By incorporating just a few vital safety tips, you can make sure everyone stays safe this Labor Day weekend.
Have a great weekend and happy Labor Day.
Sincerely,
