Floridians,

On Wednesday, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I encouraged Floridians to try their luck and search to see if they have unclaimed property. My Division of Unclaimed Property currently holds accounts valued at more than $2 billion. Since taking office, I’m proud to have returned more than $1.2 billion in unclaimed property back to the pockets of Floridians.

During these unprecedented times when so many people are looking for additional resources, I’m encouraging all Floridians to search now at FLTreasureHunt.gov. An estimated one in five Floridians has unclaimed property just waiting to be claimed and St. Patrick’s Day could be your lucky day!

This week, I also warned Floridians to be on the lookout for scam artists using the latest round of stimulus payments to make a quick buck. With payments beginning to arrive, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is offering tips to help citizens protect themselves from financial schemes involving the newly signed legislation.

Three Tips from the FTC to Prevent American Rescue Plan Scams:

  • The government will never ask you to pay anything up front to get this money. That’s a scam. Every time.
  • The government will not call/text/email/DM you to ask for your Social Security, bank account, or credit card number. Anyone who does is a scammer.
  • Nobody legit will ever — EVER — tell you to pay by gift card, cryptocurrency, or wire transfer through companies like Western Union or MoneyGram. You know who will tell you to pay like that? A scammer.

If you or someone you know has fallen victim to scams or fraud, report it immediately at FraudFreeFlorida.com.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Jimmy
