Floridians,

This week, I issued a letter to the International Olympic Committee encouraging them to consider relocating the 2021 Olympics from Tokyo, Japan to the United States of America, and more specifically to Florida. Recent media reports have stated that leaders in Japan have “privately” concluded that they are too concerned about the pandemic for the 2021 Olympics to take place.

As Japan’s leaders quietly work behind the scenes to ditch the sporting event, we’ll continue beating the drum for Florida. These athletes have worked their entire lives for the opportunity to compete and we should work together to figure out a way to make it happen.

CFO at Florida Sheriffs Association 2021 Winter Conference

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to address the Florida Sheriffs Association 2021 Winter Conference in Ponte Vedra. At the event, I announced that during the 2021 Legislative Session, I will support Governor DeSantis’ “Combatting Violence, Disorder Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act” and will oppose any cuts to the state budget that impacts partnerships with local law enforcement. In addition, I will work to oppose the anti-law enforcement culture that is being pushed throughout the nation and by certain elements of the Florida Legislature.

On Wednesday, I announced the launch of “Be Scam Smart,” which is a consumer protection initiative aimed at protecting seniors from fraud and scams amid COVID-19. Recently, we’ve even seen scam artists use COVID-19 vaccines as a scam tactic. While these scam tactics are alarming, when it comes to fighting fraud, the best defense is a good offense, and the information in our Be Scam Smart presentations helps protect our seniors from financial schemes.

Lastly, on February 7, 2021, Florida will host its 17th Super Bowl in Tampa. When most states shut down their sporting events, the city of Jacksonville hosted the Ultimate Fighting Championship (the UFC) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) setup the “bubble” to hold games in Orlando. The fact is, Florida does sports right. I couldn’t be more excited to see the Bucs play for a chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Jimmy
