My Florida C F O

Dear Fellow Floridians:

A couple of weeks ago, I shared with newsletter readers that my office was planning to host a Save the Date - 9-22-16 - Mock Insurance Villagedemonstration of our post-disaster, on-site insurance village as a way of practicing our office’s hurricane preparedness plans. Storms that bring extensive damage more often than not result in wide-spread power outages that cripple our ability to communicate through internet, phone and cable lines thus exacerbating the claim filing process.

Hurricane Hermine impacted a significant portion of our great state, and thousands are now in the process of filing insurance claims to cover their losses. If you have any trouble filing your claim, give our Consumer Insurance Helpline a call. The number is (877) 693-5236 and our insurance experts are ready to answer any questions you may have.

It is important that Floridians know we are continuing to make our necessary preparations to respond following a storm, so we’re moving ahead with our plans to host this demonstration. Next Thursday, September 22, we will be in Tampa, joined by Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier and several of the area's top insurance companies. We’ll have all of our post-disaster resources available, as will each of the invited insurance companies.

If you are in the area, were impacted by Hurricane Hermine and you still have questions about how to file a claim or concerns about the progress of an already-filed claim, come on by. We will be happy to help in person.

We have cooperative agreements with several large corporations that offer us space on their property after disasters so that we can set up insurance villages like the one we are planning for next week. Use of our partner's space allows us to be centrally located within an impacted community. This is sometimes an inconvenience to them, but they make the effort for the greater good of their fellow Floridians.

Walmart Supercenter will be the site of our September 22 demonstration, located at 1505 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. As we reflect on last week’s storm and continue to test our post-disaster preparedness, I hope that you will similarly talk with your family about any updates you may wish to make to your disaster preparedness plans.

I hope to see you in Tampa!

Florida's InfrastructureFlorida's Bottom Line: Florida's Infrastructure

Florida’s infrastructure is the framework on which cities, neighborhoods, and day-to-day lives are built. The most common types of infrastructure are roads and bridges, but there are many kinds of infrastructure that the state relies upon to operate on a daily basis. With 20.3 million residents and 2.1 million businesses expected to continue growing, the strains on existing infrastructure will be a challenge. These strains will require new ideas, new investments, and new technology to bridge the gap between today and tomorrow.
