Dear Fellow Floridian:

There is no doubt that the past few years have been challenging economically for our nation and state. Now that all the economic numbers for 2012 have been released, we areFlorida Economy 2012 Infographic able to better grasp how our economy fared last year and look forward to a successful 2013. To help illustrate the changes in Florida’s economy over the past few years, my office has put together an information graphic or infographic of Florida’s economy. These are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge used to communicate complex information quickly and clearly. I hope you find this one interesting and useful.

I believe that in order for our economy to flourish in the future, we must learn from the past. Economic trend lines are vital to help us move in the right direction, guiding our decisions so we can look forward to a prosperous 2013.

As we begin 2013, we know there are still challenges ahead of us, but Florida is taking steps forward, and I know the future will be bright.

Located in Tampa, the annual Florida State Fair salutes the state's best in the agriculture and equestrian industry plus shows, music, rides, food and shopping for 12 consecutive days.

With a 6:30 a.m. Thursday "Flip the Switch" fair opening, a Fresh From Florida breakfast, the grand opening of the Florida cattleman's exhibit, a livestock tour and 2013 Florida State Fairshowmanship competition and the Governor's Day luncheon, the Governor and Cabinet also held an official Cabinet meeting. Veterans and first responders were honored, along with the Rowdies soccer team and economic leaders from the Tampa Bay area.

In recent months, several surveys and studies were released that speak to the quality of Florida's business climate and discuss Florida's ranking alongside other states. Here are these resources in case you missed them:

Florida Chamber's Small Business Index Survey results

The National Chamber Foundation released a study on Enterprising States

The non-partisan Tax Foundation recently released a study ranking states' business tax climate, the 2013 State Business Tax Climate Index. This survey ranked Florida fifth best in the nation.
