Notice of Receivership

Effective on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at 11:59 p.m., MD Medicare Choice, Inc. (“MDMC”) was ordered into receivership for purposes of liquidation by the Second Judicial Circuit Court in Leon County, Florida. The Florida Department of Financial Services is the court appointed Receiver of MDMC.

Background Information

MDMC was a health maintenance organization that obtained its Florida license in February 2005 and began operations in January 2006. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, the Medicare only HMO provided health care coverage to approximately 16,000 Medicare beneficiaries in 23 counties. Medicare premiums and contracts are administered through a federal agency, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”).

When MDMC was ordered liquidated on September 30, 2008, the member's health care coverage with MDMC was cancelled as of that date and time. However, former MDMC members maintained their health care coverage through another health maintenance organization, Humana, Inc. effective October 1, 2008.

On June 8, 2009, the Receiver mailed Proof of Claim forms to all known claimants. The Claim Filing Deadline for timely filing of claims was September 30, 2009.

On July 16, 2012, the Receiver mailed Notices of Determination to Class 1 through 3 claimants. No claims in Class 4 through 11 were evaluated at this time. The Objection Filing Deadline was August 28, 2012.

On June 30, 2015, the Receiver mailed Notices of Determination to Class 4 through 10 claimants. The Objection Filing Deadline was August 14, 2015.

On December 3, 2015, the Receiver mailed Notices of Determination to one Class 8 claimant. The objection filing deadline was January 18, 2016.

On May 20, 2016, a distribution was made to the claimants in the MDMC estate. There were 1,312 checks mailed in the distribution. A total of $14,026,923.11 was distributed by the Receiver. That was the final distribution made in the MDMC estate.

The Department was discharged of all of its responsibilities in administering the MDMC estate and the estate was closed at 11:59 PM on November 30, 2016.
