Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate, Sha’Ron James, invites the public and industry stakeholders to participate in a forum focused on informing consumer decisions in healthcare. The high cost of healthcare continues to be an issue for Florida’s families and the financial impact of one medical event can be a devastating blow to a family’s financial future. Currently, there are several proposals before the Legislature and other policy options that have been discussed that take consumers out of the billing equation and empowers the consumer with the information they need to make informed medical decisions. One informational resource, the FAIR Health database, is currently being utilized by consumers, health insurers, medical providers, facilities and regulators in other states to research healthcare pricing and resolve medical billing disputes. During the forum, representatives from FAIR Health, Inc. will provide information on its independent healthcare database in an effort to help Floridians better understand how its tool empowers individual healthcare consumers and how it is being used to resolve disputes between providers and insurers.
The forum will take place January 19th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Tallahassee at the Florida Capitol, Knott Building, Room 116. For those who wish to participate outside of Tallahassee, the forum will be live streamed via the Florida Channel at www.thefloridachannel.org.
