Delay in FBI fingerprint processing will affect license applicants
The Florida Department of Financial Services was notified that the FBI, which is responsible for processing all fingerprint information for federal background checks, would not be available to process any applicant fingerprints from April 28, 2010 through May 3, 2010. This was due to a U.S. Census Bureau project that required immediate attention. The FBI resumed normal fingerprint processing on May 4, 2010, however the delay created a backlog that is expected to last another week. License applicants who are required to provide a set of fingerprints are being affected by this delay. The Florida Department of Financial Services thanks you for your patience and understanding.

Fingerprint results are now automated
During the delay as noted above, we took the opportunity to implement a new process for receiving fingerprint results from the FBI. Previously, it required manual handling of each result, which was very time-consuming. Now when the FBI sends us the federal fingerprinting result information, it is electronically indexed into our system. This process is more secure, reduces the possibility of human error, and will expedite our processing time for license applications. It is one of the many examples of how we continue to find innovative methods to improve our customer service, save taxpayer money, and go green!
