COMPTROLLER'S MEMORANDUM NO. 06 (1979-1980)
TO: AGENCIES AND DEPARTMENTS ADDRESSED
SUBJECT: USE OF PRIVATELY-OWNED VEHICLES WHEN PUBLICLY-OWNED VEHICLES ARE AVAILABLE
Several agencies have requested the Department's
position on the mileage rate an employee may be reimbursed for
using a privately-owned vehicle in performance of his official
duties when a publicly-owned vehicle is available.
Section 112.061 (7) (d) 1, Florida Statutes,
provides that "privately-owned
vehicles for official travel in lieu of publicly-owned vehicles
or common carrier may be authorized by the agency head if a publicly-owned vehicle is not available..."
Consequently, if a state-owned vehicle is available, an employee
may not be reimbursed for the use of his own vehicle.
