Benefits & Services

Many veterans are not aware of the benefits and services they are entitled to due to their military service. Below are federal, state and local organizations that advocate on behalf of veterans to ensure they receive the resources and benefits they deserve.

Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Benefits and Services

The Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs advocates on behalf of Florida’s 1.5 million veterans by ensuring they receive benefits and resources earned through their service to our country. More than one-third of veterans do not receive benefits, even though they have earned them.  With the help of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, these servicemembers are connected with the information and resources needed so they can take advantage of the services and benefits they so richly deserve. Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Women Veterans

Florida is home to more than 154,000 women veterans, the third largest population of women veterans in the nation. Many women veterans are not aware of the federal and state benefits that they are eligible for, including specific programs for them. Florida Veterans Foundation

The Florida Veterans Foundation (FVF) advocates on behalf of Florida’s veterans to ensure they have access to healthcare, education, jobs and their benefits. Many of the members of FVF are retired servicemembers who are well-trained on the rules and regulations that pertain to veterans. FVF partners with service organizations to provide financial, educational, employment and social support to help veterans get back on their feet and into society. Student Veterans of America

Tallahassee Veterans Legal Collaborative

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Discharge Upgrade Tool

In a joint effort, the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs launched a new online tool for veterans who want to upgrade or change the conditions of their military discharge. Many veterans expressed disapproval in the previous process as difficult or intimidating to understand. For those veterans who suffer from mental health or other conditions, it was more difficult for them maneuver. This new tool simplifies and customizes the process. To begin the process, click here.

The Veterans Home Loans program provides veterans with a home loan guaranty and other housing-related programs to help veterans buy, build, repair, retain or customize a home to fit their personal needs. To learn more about services that may be available, click here.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs take special care to pay lasting tributes to the memory of the men and women who served and sacrificed in service to our country. The mission of Volunteers of America Florida is to connect veterans with the benefits and services they are entitled to by incorporating mentoring and peer-to-support.
