New Medicare Cards are Here

New Medicare Card Information

In an effort to fight identity theft, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have redesigned Medicare cards; Social Security Numbers no longer appear on the cards. Over 61 million beneficiaries across all U.S. states and territories were mailed new cards with a unique number that will be used to identify them. Both new and old Medicare cards will be accepted during a transition period that ends December 31, 2019. Shred your old card and begin using your new one right away. Be diligent and protect yourself from Medicare Card Scams. Use caution and protect your new Medicare card number. Medicare will never ask for payment or personal information regarding your new card unsolicited.

For more information on the new Medicare cards, visit www.cms.gov/newcard. Read more about the Medicare Card Scam in the Operation S.A.F.E. Frauds and Scams section.
