What is a Public Record?
Public Records are documents, papers, letters, maps, books, audio and video tapes, photographs, films, sound recordings, data processing software or other material regardless of physical form or characteristics or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by the Department, that are used to perpetuate, communicate or formalize knowledge.
This portal is for requesting DFS records only. For public records in the possession of other state agencies, including the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) and the Office of Financial Regulation (OFR), please contact those agencies directly.
