Bureau of Monitoring and Audit Mission Statement:

The mission of the Bureau of Monitoring and Audit is to ensure timely and accurate benefits to injured workers, timely payments for medical services, as well as accurate payroll reporting and coverage for self-insured employers. The bureau uses a wide variety of strategies to accomplish this mission, all of which contribute to the division accomplishing its first and second goals: serving as comprehensive resource and developing an unparalleled real-time environment.

Insurer Audit Performance

For Fiscal-Year 2004/05, the Audit Section of the Bureau of Monitoring and Audit completed 40 audits. The Audit Section continued to pursue not only the timeliness of the indemnity benefits, but also the accuracy of the payment to the injured worker as well. A total of 10,007 claim files were reviewed for the timely payment of indemnity, and medical benefits, as well as for the timely submission of required forms.

Pursuant to Section 440.525, F.S., audits may address, but are not limited to addressing, patterns or practices of unreasonable delay in claims handling; timeliness and accuracy of payments and reports, or patterns or practices of harassment, coercion, or intimidation of claimants.

With the implementation of the CPS program, the Audit Section has started to analyze the data that is being filed with the Division as part of the audit.

The audit process is based on statutory requirements in several key categories. These categories include the following:
