TALLAHASSEE – Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today announced the arrest of Latoya Daniels, 33, of Orlando, for public assistance fraud. Daniels is alleged to have provided false information in order to receive more than $26,200 in food stamp and Medicaid benefits.
“When an individual lies to the state in order to receive benefits, it is equivalent to stealing from Floridians who are actually in need of services to get back on their feet,” CFO Jeff Atwater said. “We will continue to work with our partners in law enforcement and DCF to crack down on fraud and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
An investigation by the Department of Financial Services, Division of Public Assistance Fraud determined that from January 2010 through August 2012, Daniels reported that her household had no source of income. In fact, Daniels was employed during the time she was receiving benefits.
Daniels is charged with Obtaining Public Assistance by Fraud and Grand Theft.
