TALLAHASSEE—Florida Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater today announced the arrest of Chimere Monet Brown, of Orlando, after an investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) determined that Brown intentionally started a fire at a local hotel.
On Nov. 1, 2011, the Orange County Fire Rescue Department and the SFM responded to a structure fire at 7100 N. Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. The SFM investigation revealed that Brown poured gasoline in the hallway and in front of a room at the InnTown Suites. After a short time, Brown returned to the hallway, lit the gasoline on fire and endangered the lives of several hotel occupants.
On May 26, Brown was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and booked in the Orange County Jail on charges of attempted murder and arson. If convicted, Brown could face life in prison.
To report arson, call 1-877-No-Arson (1-877-662-7766) or visit http://www.facap.org/ReportArson.cfm. A reward of up to $5,000 may be paid by the Florida Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention for a tip that leads directly to an arrest and conviction.
