TALLAHASSEE—Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today released the following statement in support of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s proposed bill entitled the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012 which would protect church-affiliated organizations from being mandated to provide services that violate their religious beliefs.
“It is unconscionable that the Federal government is willing to blatantly ignore the U.S. Constitution and force church-affiliated groups to provide services that violate their religious beliefs."
“Religious freedom is a right, granted to us by our founding fathers in our constitution. Any attempt by government, whether it is federal, state or local, to undermine that right, should be taken head on and stopped. I applaud Senator Rubio’s proposal to protect American’s religious freedom, and urge the Florida delegation to join in support.”
