Florida CFO Jeff Atwater Sending Help to Alabama

TALLAHASSEE- Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced today that he is deploying a team from the Department of Financial Services to assist residents of Alabama impacted by last week’s tornadoes.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have lost loved ones, homes and businesses, and we will do whatever we can to help our neighbors get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” said CFO Atwater.

CFO Atwater is sending a fire prevention specialist from the State Fire Marshal’s office to assist Alabama’s Emergency Operations Center.  In addition, he is sending four specialists trained in assisting consumers with filing insurance claims to work in that state’s Recovery Centers.

CFO Atwater said the tornadoes serve as a good reminder to Florida residents and small business owners to review their insurance policies and speak to their agent about the coverage they will need in the event of a disaster. Hurricane Season begins June 1.
