TALLAHASSEE—Florida CFO Alex Sink today commended Governor Charlie Crist for acting on her request that he ask the U.S. Small Business Administration for an official Economic Injury Disaster Declaration to make low-interest loans available to businesses in 19 Florida coastal counties already experiencing economic disruption from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
On Monday, CFO Sink sent a letter to Governor Crist requesting the action, noting that only a governor can certify to the SBA that there are qualifying businesses in a disaster area.
“Florida must act swiftly to take advantage of every possible opportunity available to help our small businesses to survive the effects of this disaster,” CFO Sink said. “I am pleased Governor Crist took this very critical step, and will continue to do whatever I can to look out for our businesses and make sure they get the help they need.”
