TALLAHASSEE– Florida CFO and State Fire Marshal Alex Sink today issued the following statement in remembrance of Miami firefighter and South Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2 Leslie Luma:
“My thoughts and prayers are with Firefighter Luma’s wife and children during this time of unspeakable sorrow, and with his fellow firefighters from the City of Miami and Rescue Task Force 2. We all respect and honor his dedicated service to the City of Miami, our state and our country.
“Just a few short months ago, the world witnessed unbelievable destruction from the earthquake in Haiti. As a member of the South Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2, Firefighter Luma exhibited his characteristic bravery and selflessness by helping save the life of a young Haitian woman pinned in the wreckage and assisting his teammates in saving six others. On the eighth anniversary of his service to the City of Miami, there are simply no words to adequately express the depth of our loss, nor our tremendous gratitude for his service.”
