TALLAHASSEE – Florida CFO Alex Sink today released the following statement regarding the January 12 earthquake in Haiti:
“The devastating impact of yesterday’s earthquake in Haiti is severe and widespread, and I know that all Floridians join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to Haitians and Haitian-Americans. Having visited Haiti on a medical mission trip with my church several years ago, I saw firsthand the challenges that this nation faces and am extremely concerned about the devastation. I understand the necessity for a quick response from our state and the global community, and I urge Floridians to give whatever resources they can during this extremely difficult time.”
CFO Sink encourages Floridians who are trying to contact family members to call the U.S. State Department toll-free at 1-888-407-4747. She also asked Floridians who are able to help to contact the American Red Cross, which is accepting disaster relief contributions through its International Response Fund, at www.redcross.org or by texting “HAITI” to 90999 on their cell phones.
