CFO Sink Commends Hillsborough County Schools for $100 Million Grant Award

TALLAHASSEE – Florida CFO Alex Sink today commended Hillsborough County Public School Superintendant MaryEllen Elia after it was reported that Hillsborough County schools will receive a $100 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
“Investments in education are so important for Florida’s future, which is why I commend the work of MaryEllen Elia and applaud the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for awarding this $100 million grant to Hillsborough County schools,” said CFO Sink. “As a mother whose two children attended Hillsborough County public schools, I could not be more pleased that Hillsborough County students and teachers will benefit from such a substantial investment.”
CFO Sink previously chaired the Hillsborough Education Foundation Board of Directors and worked closely with Elia. Hillsborough County Public Schools were one of three school systems selected nationwide to receive this grant funding.
As a statewide elected officer of the Florida Cabinet, CFO Alex Sink oversees the Department of Financial Services. A successful businesswoman with nearly three decades of experience in the private sector, Sink is serving her first term as Florida's CFO. As CFO, Sink's priorities include using her business experience to cut wasteful government spending, cracking down on financial and insurance fraud and reforming the state government's contracting practices.
