Statement from CFO Sink on Today’s Plane Crash and Heroic Rescue by Off-duty Lake Mary Firefighter

TALLAHASSEE—Florida Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Alex Sink issued the following statement today regarding the plane crash today in Orlando and the life-saving rescue by off-duty Lake Mary firefighter and paramedic Ryan Cooper. Cooper saved a neighbor and his son after seeing the fiery crash.
“Our first responders know they are taking a risk every time they answer a call, but this responder did not hesitate even off-duty when he saw his neighbors in need,” said CFO Sink. “I commend his amazing courage and quick thinking and wish all three a speedy recovery.
“I also want to extend my deepest sympathies to the families of those who did not survive this tragic accident, as well as to the community, the neighbors and all of the responders who witnessed or responded to this event.”
